Lab Mission
The scientific objectives of the laboratory are based on human recordings of peripheral nerve signals. This approach will help to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying cardiovascular and metabolic diseases; it will also enable the study of peripheral nerve regeneration as well as the effects of neurostimulation and autonomic dysfunction on functional recovery after a stroke. Additionally, in the field of bioelectronic medicine, it will be possible to develop “bionic” devices capable of artificially restoring sensory information, particularly tactile perception, in amputees, thereby improving prostheses ergonomics.

Devices

Faraday cage
One of the main strengths of the laboratory is the Faraday cage, which, with its structure of 3.7 x 2.7 x 3 meters made of 2mm thick galvanized steel panels interspersed with a special Copperweld metal mesh, achieves the shielding values required by regulations and procedures for magnetic fields, electric fields, and plane waves. This shielding will allow for the recording of signals undisturbed by external interference, making them ready to be studied and processed for research purposes in their “purity.”

Microneurography and Microneurostimulation Setup
The laboratory is equipped with advanced instruments to conduct high-precision experiments for neurophysiological studies, microneurography, and microneurostimulation.
Here is a brief description of some of the devices available:
- PL308/P Powerlab 8/35 + LabChart Pro (ADInstruments): A highly versatile and precise data acquisition system that allows for the simultaneous collection, analysis, and visualization of various signals.
- FE185 Neuro Amp EX (ADInstruments): An amplifier dedicated to recording microneurographic signals.
- FE180 Isolated Nerve Stimulator (ADInstruments): An isolated stimulator that delivers precise electrical pulses to peripheral nerves, useful for microneurostimulation.
- UNP40GAT MNG Needle Electrodes (FHC): Needle electrodes for microneurography and microneurostimulation applications, used for direct studies on nerve fibers.
