WP7: Law and Policy Hub (LaPoH)

BioRobotics research and innovation sits at the intersection of existing, emerging, and future legal frameworks. Its development depends heavily on data, AI, health research, and infrastructures, such as the European Health Data Space. It is governed by a complex interplay of national and European regulations concerning AI, data protection, intellectual property, medical devices, product safety, and more. However, legislative efforts often lag behind technological advancements, creating regulatory gaps.

This evolving web of rules needs to be embedded by design and by default into the biorobotic research and innovation activities. Combining a bottom-up with a top-down approach, the Law and Policy Hub will produce cross-field regulatory analyses, contribute to policy development and best practices drafting, and develop research and awareness for BRIEF researchers and other relevant stakeholders.

The activities of the WP7 “Law and Policy Hub” will be carried out in connection with the 4 Scientific and Technological Areas (WP3, WP4, WP5 and WP6) for studying the regulatory landscape and determine the implications of its application to specific use cases.
