Lab Mission

DONOR (aDvanced OrgaNOtypic culture and 3D human tissue Reconstruction) is the facility at CRIB – University of Naples Federico II (Unina), dedicated to advanced cell culture, 3D human tissue engineering, bioprinting, and high-resolution imaging. The laboratory supports the development and characterization of human organotypic models and provides access to innovative technologies for biofabrication and tissue analysis.

Devices

STELLARIS Confocal Microscope Platform

The STELLARIS confocal system is an advanced imaging platform designed for high-resolution, multi-dimensional visualization of biological samples. In bioengineering, it enables detailed analysis of 3D tissue constructs, biomaterials, and live-cell dynamics. Equipped with sensitive photon detectors and tunable white light lasers, STELLARIS allows precise spectral imaging, fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM), and deep tissue observation—ideal for studying cell–matrix interactions, tissue remodeling, and real-time biological processes in engineered systems.

X-Light V3 Spinning Disk Confocal Microscope

The X-Light V3 Spinning Disk Confocal system provides rapid, high-resolution imaging optimized for live-cell and 3D tissue analysis. Its high-speed optical sectioning and low phototoxicity make it ideal for visualizing dynamic biological processes in engineered tissues, organoids, and biomaterial scaffolds. With enhanced sensitivity and large field of view, it supports long-term imaging and high-throughput acquisition, enabling advanced studies in tissue development, regeneration, and cell–matrix interactions.
